1 Corinthians 11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

If children see a favorite television or movie character perform a certain stunt, they want to try it! Children also imitate the adults in their lives, copying actions and speech and often taking adult opinions as their own.

The apostle Paul told believers to imitate him. They were not to model their lives after his life because he was an apostle and teacher, although those would have been good reasons. Paul wanted believers to imitate him because he imitated Christ. The apostle sought to model his life after the life of his Savior, and he wanted others to follow in Jesus' footsteps. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we want to live that way too: "Copy me because I copy Jesus!"
